Albuquerque Theatre Guild's Theatre Lovers Community Costuming Panel Set for February 2, 2013

Theatre Lovers Community (TLC), an arm of the Albuquerque Theatre Guild (ATG), presents a panel discussion by talented and notable local theatre costumers on Saturday, February 2 from 1:30 - 3:30 at Musical Theatre Southwest's Center for Theatre, 6320-B Domingo NE (just south of Expo NM). Participants will learn how these sorcerers of the sewing needle get their inspiration and experience, about their most challenging projects and worst disasters, what it is like working with actors, and more.

"Ever wonder who dreamed up that gorgeous costume on the ingénue? What makes the villain look so evil?" asks Kay Grant, founder of Theatre Lovers Community. "You'll find out how costumers find period pieces, and just what goes into finding or producing a costume for our local theatres."

Panel participants include:

  • Barbara Bock, Moderator. Bock is a visual artist who has designed sets and costumes for well over 100 productions since her arrival in New Mexico in 1976. Among her memorable projects are designs for hand-painted 18th century gowns for She Stoops to Conquer at the Adobe; a contemporary version of Beyond Therapy at the Vortex; and the post-modern PLUNDA at UNM with its bubble-wrap designs for the dancers. Recently she did both set and costumes for her husband Phil Bock's musical, Cat on a Streetcar Named Iguana at the Adobe.
  • Dorothy Baca, professor and costume designer for the UNM Department of Theatre & Dance, has professional television and film credits that include Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Major Dad, Charles in Charge, Murder, She Wrote, Batman andRobin, The Longest Yard, and What Women Want. Baca was the costume supervisor on Suspect Zero, starring Ben Kingsley and Border Town, both filmed in New Mexico.
  • Rosemary Castro-Gallegos has been designing and building costumes for over 25 years. She has been the Costume/Wardrobe Supervisor at the National Hispanic Cultural Center since 2004, designing for the Patty Disney Zarzuela Series and Teatro Nuevo Mexico. Some productions include Luisa Fernanda, La Tabenara, The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit,Yerma, The Fence, Real Women Have Curves, and The House of Bernarda Alba. She has been resident costumer for St. Pius X High since 2003. Rosemary designs for Bosque School, New Mexico Young Actors, Play Conservatory, and Landmark Musicals.
  • Joe Moncada is an accomplished dancer and dance teacher, and has costumed for dance competitions, ballet, and musical theatre.
