Bee Gees Tribute Held at Spencer 1/28

Bee-Gees-Tribute-Held-at-Spencer-20010101

STAYIN’ ALIVE, an eight-piece band taking center stage at the Spencer Theater at 7 p.m. Saturday, January 28 ($79 & $76) is the largest and most definitive tribute to the Bee Gees of its kind. Featuring Tony Mattina (Barry Gibb - Lead Vocals and Guitar), Mitch Morrison (Maurice Gibb - Vocals and Keyboards), Todd Sharman (Robin Gibb - Lead and Backing Vocals), Michael Griffin (Drums and Percussion), Chris Mullen (Bass Guitar), “Smokin” Joe Perees and Andy Wegerich (Guitars) and Cheryl Hardy (Background Vocals and Percussion).

What made the disco era so distinctive in the annals of American History? The Bee Gees! The trio of Gibb brothers, their unique harmonies (and galvanizing falsettos), and of course their sound track to the 1975 movie “Saturday Night Fever” with its seismic hits of Jive Talkin, I Can’t Have You, Stayin’ Alive, Nights On Broadway, You Should Be Dancing, Night Fever” made dancing as a couple sexy once again and made rolling skating at the local rink a night of spinning thrills.

The Bee Gees’ blockbuster love songs like How Deep is Your Love, Too Much Heaven, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, Islands in the Stream captivated hearts around the world, just as their pre-disco, soft, poetic ballads (i.e. I Started A Joke, Massachusetts, Fanny Be Tender, Words, New York Mining Disaster 1941 and To Love Somebody, which have a Beatlesque pop-rock flavor, placed them on the charts when they first started recording in the late 1960s. The group enjoyed number one hits in each of the five decades of their performance history, and they’ve penned countless hits for other artists like Celine Dion, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Pardon, Conway Twitty, Barbara Streisand, Destiny’s Child, and many more. Indeed, the brothers Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb thrived on the international music scene longer than any group in pop history, attesting to their extraordinary talent and tenacious adaptability.

Because of their distinctly blended harmonies, the brothers Gibb fashioned an impossible challenge to those who would pay them homage...until now.

STAYIN’ ALIVE is packed with the songs and flash of a full Bee Gees night. Expect all the blockbusters - Night Fever, Jive Talkin, How Deep Is Your Love, You Should Be Dancin, Nights On Broadway and Stayin’ Alive, as well as their heartrending ballads. It will be a truly groovy night kicked-off by a “Disco Buffet” (see menu on inside page) in the Spencer lobby ($20 per person) featuring sensational foods popular in the 1970s! Call the Spencer at 575.336.4800 or go on line to www.spencrtheater.com for tickets.
