Capitol Steps' TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN FOR PRESIDENT Comes to Spencer Theater, 11/3

Oh yes, the majority of us are so weary of politics and double-speak that we crave a release of laughter, that kind of gut-aching, cathartic roar that's shared with others - friends and strangers alike. Thank goodness then for the fresh and crispy comedy of The Capitol Steps, the political satire troupe comprised of former Republican and Democrat Congressional aides appearing at the Spencer Theater on Saturday, November 3rd at 7 p.m.

Widely revered for lampooning policy makers and other public figures in skits to the tunes of popular songs, the bipartisan comedians will be performing their latest twist, "Take The Money and Run For President" as well as brand new works sketched out following recent Obama-Romney and Biden-Ryan debates, gaffs and policy proposals. With 36 CD recordings under their belts, The Players will also tap into relevant hits from recent past recordings such as Desperate House Members, Liberal Shop of Horrors, Obama Mia!, Springtime for Liberals and perhaps something like Weiner Wonderland.

"We didn't start satire; it was always burning since the world was turning…," the troupe declares when unveiling plans to bring down the house with their unique blend of music and political comedy. Now celebrating their 35th year in performance with songs and tunes like "If I Tax A Rich Man," "Here's to You, Reverend Robertson," "Help Me Fake It To The Right," "You Can't Hid This Guy Biden," the Capitol Steps are all about timing - political timing, comedic timing, and the timing it takes to write satire that's right on top of the latest news, scandals, pols and polls. Their shows are always full of sight gags – garish wigs, fake dynamite, empty chairs and the like. The bulk of antics and skits are right from the headlines, so it helps to be keyed-in to current rhetoric and celebrity scandals – and the ability to recognize when somebody is ripe for comedic attack.

In addition to its annual cross-country tours, the company performs in Washington D.C. throughout the year. They've also enjoyed a five-summer off-Broadway run in the late 1990s and annual springtime returns to the New York theater district.

They have performed for five U.S. Presidents and scores of dignitaries. Their performance at the Spencer will be one of the only places in New Mexico where you'll find the two Presidential candidates running around on stage singing show tunes. (The performance is not meant to influence your votes for President or congress, and if it does,…help, we're in for another four crazy years!) .

The Capitol Steps -- They put the "MOCK" in Democracy! Excellent seats ($79 & $76) are available for the 7 p.m. Saturday, November 3rd show. Call the Box Office at 575.336.4800 or go online to www.spencertheater.com for tickets. A meatloaf buffet will also be available at 5 p.m. for $20.

Spencer Theater is a world-class performance hall located in the Sacramento Mountain settlement of Alto, about 12 miles north of downtown Ruidoso. Unique architecture, outstanding acoustics, intimate seating, and excellent artistry are the Spencer's celebrated features. The elegant, award-winning hall, which first raised its curtains in 1997, seats 514, with no seats farther than 67 feet from the 4,770 square-foot stage. The Spencer also has a 964 square-foot outdoor stage that can seat 1,500. From its Spanish mica-flecked limestone face to the crystal lobby, the building itself is a work of art. Free public tours are offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the year.
