Spencer Theater Presents CAMELOT 2/20

Rediscover the grandeur of one of history's greatest love stories in "Camelot," Lerner and Loewe's timeless musical masterpiece!

Set in a fabled land where honor and chivalry reign, "Camelot" is a sumptuous tale that follows the love triangle of the genial King Arthur, his flirtatious wife Queen Guenevere and the charming young egoist Lancelot with one of the most hauntingly romantic scores of all time: If Ever I would Leave You, How To Handle A Woman, I Loved You Once in Silence, and Follow Me.

Featuring a cast of 30 singers, dancers and orchestra musicians with Columbia Artists Theatricals, the stunning musical journey will be presented at the Spencer Theater at
2 p.m. & 8 p.m. Saturday, February 20.

Tickets ranging in price from $46-$59 are available at the Spencer Box Office. Call 575.336.4800 or go on line to www.spencertheater.com for seating information.

Based on T. H. White's literary version of the legend The Once and Future King, "Camelot" was adapted for the Broadway stage by the famed songwriting duo of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Lowe (My Fair Lady, Brigadoon) in 1960. The musical swept the Tony Awards in 1961 with the amazing team of leading players that included Richard Burton, Julie Andrews, Robert Goulet and Rodney Macdowell, and has since become a performance favorite.
The story of "Camelot" is at heart all about relationships: the pursuit and complications of love and the deceptions people resort to in order to get the relationships and love they want. It is also about a deep love of place -- the lavish, idyllic paradise forever known as "Camelot."

..."In short, there's simply not
A more congenial spot
For happ'ly-ever-aftering Than Here
In Camelot"....

It is here that King Arthur establishes the Knights of the Round Table with an inspiringly new motif of "fight for right, not might."
And it is here that heartbreak hovers on the horizon....
King Arthur and Queen Guenevere's marriage is a love story that goes sour when the buff young Lancelot arrives on the scene. He desires to become one of Arthur's knights and ends up igniting adulterous sparks.
The lovers withhold their passsion out of love for Arthur, who has come to know Lancelot as his "best friend," but all goes to ruin when Arthur's devious, illigitimate son Mordrid appears with a mind full of malace.
"Camelot" delivers its drama with rich operatic ballads, lusty vocals, spine-tingling excitement and fiery intrigue.

...Don't let it be forgot
That once there was a spot,
For one brief, shining moment
That was known as Camelot.

Take a trip to that mythical realm at the Spencer Theater! Call 575.336.4800 for your tickets today!
